Product Description
QM Series Light Duty Roll Ball Mill — Drum Grinding and Mixing from 30 L to 2000 L
Overview
The QM series light duty roll ball mill is a horizontal drum-type machine for batch grinding, mixing, dispersing and emulsifying of powders and slurries. Material and grinding media are charged into a rotating drum; as the drum turns, the charge is lifted to a certain height and then falls back along a parabolic path, so the media repeatedly shear, impact, crush and roll over the material inside the drum.
Because the energy input is gentle compared with high-energy planetary milling, the roll ball mill is suited to batch production, blending of large volumes and materials that should not be over-heated or over-ground. Drum volumes run from 30 L to 2000 L, with a loading capacity of 10.5 L to 700 L and an output fineness of 300 mesh or finer, so one series covers pilot batches as well as small and medium production runs.
Working Principle
The drum is mounted horizontally on a driven roller frame and rotates at a low, controlled speed. Grinding media and material are lifted by friction against the drum wall until gravity makes them slide and cascade back to the bottom of the drum. The material is reduced by a combination of attrition, shear and impact rather than by a single high-energy blow. By changing the drum speed, the media size and the ball-to-powder ratio, the same machine can carry out coarse grinding, fine grinding, mixing or homogenisation, in either a dry or a wet process.
Key Features
- Smooth, stable running with low noise and low energy consumption per batch.
- Dry and wet grinding of materials across a wide hardness range; coarse grinding, fine grinding and mixing with the same drum.
- Automatic discharge versions available, where grinding media and finished powder are separated automatically for easier collection.
- Protective drum jacket and selectable linings help keep iron and other contamination low, protecting product purity.
- Wear-resistant drum construction for a long service life and consistent grinding efficiency.
- Drum volumes from 30 L to 2000 L, so capacity can be matched to the required batch size.
- Speed control by stepless variable frequency drive, or fixed speed for simple repeatable duty.

Notes: Drums from 25 L to 50 L are driven by single-phase 220 V supply; drums above 50 L use three-phase 380 V. Drum bodies are available in carbon steel or stainless steel, with inner linings in nylon, polyurethane, PTFE, corundum ceramic and other wear-resistant materials. Output fineness of 300 mesh or finer applies to the whole series.
Drum, Lining and Media Options
Containment material is chosen to match the material being processed. Carbon steel and stainless steel drums cover general duty; nylon and polyurethane linings are used where metal pickup must be avoided or where the charge is sticky and tends to build up on the wall; PTFE is selected for chemically aggressive charges; corundum ceramic and zirconia linings are used for hard, abrasive powders where wear resistance matters most. Grinding media should be matched to the lining — equal hardness or softer — so that the drum is not worn by its own media.
Model Naming and Selection
Model codes read QM-(volume)-(type), where A denotes a variable-speed unit and B a standard fixed-speed unit; for example QM-50-A is a 50 L variable-speed roll ball mill. In practice the model is chosen in three steps: first by the batch volume required per run, then by the nature of the material (hardness, acidity, sensitivity to metal contamination), and finally by whether an automatic discharge device and dust cover are needed for the workplace.
Typical Applications
- Ceramic raw materials, glazes and body formulations
- Refractory and building materials
- Mineral and ore samples, including laboratory preparation work
- Chemical powders and compounds
- Pigments, coatings and dyestuffs, in dry or slurry form
- Batch mixing and homogenisation where a gentle, long-duration process is preferred
Ordering Information
The QM series is offered with drum volumes from 30 L to 2000 L, in variable-speed (A) or fixed-speed (B) configuration, with the lining and media selected for the application. Please confirm the material to be processed, the batch size per run and the required fineness when enquiring, so that the correct model and lining combination can be quoted.
