Cryogenic planetary ball mill is mainly applied to ultrafine grinding under condition of low-temperature requested by materials. Compared with the artificial injection of liquid nitrogen cooling, cold-air planetary ball mill is much easier and more convenient to be operated, it is also cost-saved, and low-energy consumed.
Cold-air planetary ball mill (with air cooling system) is composed of planetary ball mill and air cooling device. Cycling of cold air quickly takes away the heat generated by grinding by means of air conditioning refrigeration principle, and temperature inside the grinding space can be controlled at 2-10 ℃ according to temperature difference of working environment. Such a cold-air device can be also applied to assembly other models like vertical ball mill, horizontal ball mill, 360 degree ball mill and dual ball mill.

Temperature is generally controlled within 5-15 Celsius degree, mainly used for somspecial materials which are required to be ground into superfine powder under low temperature process.
Air cooling system
The air cooling system has advantages of simple structure, easy operation, convenienct maintenance and low energy consumption.
XQM series planetary ball mill with air cooling device has four ball grinding tanks installed on one sun wheel. When the sun wheel rotates, the tank axis makes planetary movements and the balls in the tanks grinds and mixes samples in high speed movement. The product can smash and blend various products of different materials and granularity with dry or wet methods. Minimum granularity of ground powder can be as small as less 0.1μm

Experiment on the following requirements of the Cooling Air circulating Planetary Ball Mill:
1.The temperature needed to be lower than 50 ℃ during the grinding of biological samples.
2.The powder will be caked in the process of ultrafine grinding.
3.In some experiments, the temperature should not be higher than 30 ℃.
4.The powder will expand during high temperature grinding, which will lead to explosion experiment

Planetary ball mills are available in versions with 2 or 4 grinding stations. The freely selectable machine settings, comprehensive range of grinding jars made from top-quality materials as well as the numerous possible balls charge combinations(number and ball size) allow individual adaption of the grinding parameters to the particular size reduction task.
Guidelines for sample amount and ball charge
As a rule of thumb, the grinding balls should be approximately 3 x larger than the largest sample particle. In addition to the instrument settings and the ball size, the filling level of the jar is also of crucial importance for a successful grinding process in ball mills.
When grinding bulk materials, the jar should be filled with approx. 1/3 sample and 1/3 ball charge. The remaining third is the free jar volume that is necessary for the free movement of the balls.
If an increase or decrease in sample volume is to be expected during the grinding process, the filling levels may be changed according to the range give in the table below (in case of an expected decrease in sample volume, a further deviation is possible).
For wet grinding with grinding balls <3mm the ball charge should make up 60% of the jar volume, while the sample amount should be 30%, Then density of the grinding ball materials is used to calculate the mass of the required amount of grinding balls.

Please note: for this TENCAN ball mill, you require two or four grinding jars of your choice and the corresponding number of grinding balls. The grinding jar material must be harder than the material to be ground. In normal cases, grinding jars and balls of the same material are used. To shorten the grinding time, larger or heavier grinding jars and grinding balls with a higher density can be used.
